Before You Restore: Safety Checklist

Protect destination data and confirm the intended restore scope before writing files or database tables.

Reviewed 2026-08-28Applies to 1.9.24 and later
  • Confirm the destination hostname and WordPress installation.
  • Create a current backup of destination data.
  • Verify available disk space.
  • Confirm whether the operation affects one site or a whole multisite network.
  • Record destination credentials; restored authentication may come from the source database.
  • Schedule a maintenance window for production.
  • Keep a rollback copy outside the destination server.

Do not continue when the destination or multisite scope is ambiguous.
